The Consortium List Recommends (Advertising Week)

It's time for Advertising Week, that time of year when advertising professionals gather in New York City for conferences, meetings, and, of course, parties.  Here are some suggestions (not all of them are advertising-related by the way):

  • Artlog - Auction Preview Event: Monday night, 6:30 PM, Christie's @20 Rockefeller Center (Join Artlog & Christie's Post War and Contemporary art specialists for a private event featuring free cocktails and a chance to meet other young collectors previewing the Christie’s First Open sale of Post-War and Contemporary Art.)
  • The Social Media Society's official launch: Tuesday night, 8:30 PM, 675 Bar (Cocktails, networking, and chocolate-covered bacon during Advertising Week.  What more could you ask for?  A hashtag for this event, perhaps?)
  • Ignite NYC V: Wednesday night, 6 PM, New World Stages (Sponsored by the New York Television Festival, this evening's talks will focus on film, television, and video.)
  • Obliterati presents Days of Awe: Wednesday night, 6 PM, Gallery Bar (Sponsor Citysearch has lined up Lotus Vodka to provide free drinks to attendees while networking from 7 to 8:30 PM.)
  • #SMPR September Sponsored by PRSA-NY: Wednesday night, 6:30 PM, Connolly's Pub and Restaurant (5WPR's "informal gathering of professionals who utilize social media and twitter for public relations and communications purposes" meets here to hear a couple of case studies.)
  • Lilit and Amanda's Joint Birthday Party Extravaganza: Thursday night, 6:30 PM, Iona (Author Lilit Marcus requests you celebrate her birthday before atoning on Yom Kippur.)
  • Cocktails & Karaoke!: Thursday night, 7 PM, Danny & Eddies (Have some drinks and sing a bit to raise funds for The Nourishing Kitchen of NYC.)
  • The Maria's Going Away Party: Friday night, 7 PM, The Roger Smith Hotel (Maria Ogneva is heading out of town for a bit; stop by and wish her the best.)
  • #AudreyParty: Friday night, 9 PM, Elizabeth (Celebrate Audrey Boguchwal's 25th birthday and follow along at home via Twitter.)
  • SocialChangeCamp NYC 2009: Saturday, 9 AM, NYU Woolworth Center (Learn how to leverage social-media tools to help your public-interest organization.)

Think that should keep everybody occupied for the week, don't you?  Just kidding.  There'll be more as the week goes on.  Suggestions?  E-mail me.  Want to know where I am?  Add me on Foursquare.  Hope to see you at one or more of these.

Tuesday Night Drinking Club Returns to the Meatpacking District

Sean Captain's weekly party was at La Bottega tonight in Manhattan's Meatpacking District. (See photo). The patio area wasn't all that crowded and we had three tables for our group, heading out with just enough time for Jocelyn and I to run into concertgoers leaving Britney Spears' concert at Madison Square Garden while at Penn Station.

NY Video 2.0 Meetup Celebrates Third Anniversary with Meatpacking District Soiree

The members of Organizer Yaron Samid's NY Video 2.0 Meetup gathered Thursday night at Griffin Lounge in Manhattan's Meatpacking District to celebrate the group's third anniversary.  The event sponsors, which included NYC-based and Web-video focused Blackwave, blip.tv, HD Cloud, and ooVoo, were to thank for the ability of the group to meet at the venue and for one free drink for each attendee.

Joining me in the club were Contentinople's Ryan Lawler, Canon Group's Yuna Park, Screaming Panda's Kevin Berrey, Kilckable.tv's Roger Wu, MetierLink's Sonia Jaraith, Reitman Media's Greg Reitman, Gary's Guide's Gary Shwarma, Magnify's Steve Rosenbaum and Billy Linker, and Pollock Spark's Michael PollockKindaSortaMedia's Rex Sorgatz may have been there, but I didn't see him and I heard that Boxee's Avner Ronan was too.  Ronan was probably hard to spot as he was most likely surrounded by a group of admirers.  I almost forgot to mention the guest in the panda suit (pictured) which Screaming Panda brought with them.

The crowd thinned out after the first hour most likely due to the fact that after the first drink, the guests realized that their next drink was going to be a little more pricey.  But hey, it was a club in the Meatpacking District.  What else would one expect?

Paint The Town Red

The Consortium List Recommends (Week of August 24)

All of a sudden, it feels like summer.  Finally, right?  If the heat doesn't get to you, here are a few suggestions for the week.

  • Street Meet - Last Show?: Monday night, 8 PM, Cake Shop (Heather Fink and Rob Lathan host the last of their indie comedy shows before Heather heads off to grad school.)
  • Social Media, Television, and Filmmaking Alliance: Tuesday night, 6:30 PM, Roger Smith Hotel (Networking for industry professionals who might be interested in what the others have to offer.)
  • Drinking Club - Inglorius Drunkerds Edition: Tuesday night, 7:30 PM, Maritime Hotel (Sean Captain's outdoor party returns to the Meatpacking District this week.)
  • Our Hit Parade, the August Edition: Wednesday night, 9:30 PM, Joe's Pub (Performers count down the "top ten hits in the United States of America."  Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what that is either.)
  • Obliterati Endless Summer Sizzle: Thursday night, 6 PM, Sweet & Vicious (Sponsored by Citysearch, come and mingle with others in the media business.)
  • Digital DUMBO Drinks #8: Thursday night, 6:30 PM, Galapagos Art Space (Drink specials and a presentation from sponsors space150's Billy Jurewicz and Paul Isakson.)

Hope to see you at one of these and I'll be sure to add other events as I hear about them.
